GNARLY ROUTES RACING RD.1 OF THE NATIONAL ENDURO SERIES
NEPG RD. 1 - SUMTER, SOUTH CAROLINA - 2.03.19 BIKE: KTM 300 XC
RIDER: RUSSELL BOBBITT
RESULT: 1ST OVERALL
SUMTER, SOUTH CAROLINA - The opening round of the National Enduro Series took place in Sumter, South Carolina where 700 riders would battle a rough and sandy course with perfect traction. Gnarly Routes rider, Russell Bobbitt, piloted his KTM 300 XC to first place overall. Besting KTM rider Steward Baylor Jr. by 16 seconds on the day. Bobbitt started off strong with three special test wins and was able to battle on and take the top spot after six special tests on the day.
Bobbitt: “I had limited time on the bike but we dialed it in well this last week. It was super fun to be back on the two-stroke and I felt like I had never left it today. The first three tests went really well with no mistakes and honestly, they came easy to me. The wet sand conditions make up some of my favorite style terrain to ride. I caught a flow early on and rode well all day. The last three tests went well, too, with good times and I was stoked to be in the top five. Rain held off despite some little drizzles, but I managed to keep my goggles on and bike upright to finish out the day strong.”
The last time that a two-stroke won a National Enduro event was 2015. Bobbitt made two-stroke fans proud by ending the five year two-stroke drought at the NEPG series.
Russell travels to Texas later this week to attend a Gnarly Routes riding clinic with Cole Kirkpatrick as well as the TSCEC banquet and Sandwinder Enduro.
